Balen Shah is a structural engineer, PhD scholar, rapper, and independent politician who made history by winning the Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayoral election — defeating established party machines through sheer grassroots support and vision. Named in TIME Magazine's Top 100 Emerging Leaders, he is a globally recognised voice for accountable governance and youth-led change.
Armed with an M.Tech in Structural Engineering and a passion for accountability, he brought a data-driven, action-first approach to urban governance — tackling encroachments, upgrading infrastructure, and championing transparency. Through music, he has used rap as a platform to campaign against corruption and inspire Nepal's youth generation.
